Job Overview


A Software Consultant at BMC Software is a person that has superior IBM Mainframe Technical skills in either the System Programming, Database Administration or similar background (for instance Application Development Support). They work closely with other Technical Software Consultants and Account Managers/Sales Specialists to build compelling Business Cases for the solutions offered by BMC Software on the IBM Mainframe Platform. The Technical Software Consultant is expected to use their technical background and experience to relate technical requirements into business value/benefit and have a strong understanding of the customer’s technical and business requirements. A Technical Software Consultant must be able to work with cross-functional teams including Sales and Product Marketing, to build a strategy that provides the best solutions to the customers’ business requirements.

Technical Software Consultants are expected to build and maintain relationships with key Technical Staff in our customers and ensure our customers are receiving value and using BMC Solutions to the highest possible degree.


Duties

  • Provide technical support to the Sales team throughout the sales process.
  • Work with the Sales team to help create a Sales strategy for specific customers or products.
  • Able to help qualifying a sales opportunity.
  • Able to articulate the differences between BMC Mainframe Solutions and our competitor’s solutions and the business value these differences bring to a customer.
  • Present standard solutions information to prospects and existing customers.
  • Work with other TSC’s to create and deliver customized presentations to meet the customer requirements.
  • Work with Sales and other TSC’s to complete Request for Information and tender documents.
  • Assist in carrying out Proof of Concepts/Trials at customer sites. This may involve installing the software at the customer site and executing the agreed scenarios with the customer to prove the requested functions.
  • Assist in building customer specific solution demonstrations and deliver to customers and prospects.
  • Confidently explain business and technical benefits of the BMC Solutions to the customer.
  • Assist in Delivery product training as required.
  • Work with the customer and BMC Customer Support to ensure the software is working within the customer site.
  • Assist in delivering training to the Sales teams on the value and business benefits of BMC Solutions.
  • Assist in managing the technical pre‐sales environments within BMC.
  • Use SFDC to record details of customer activities.
  • Travel as required to customers within the AP Region, this will involve approximately one week in four being on the road.
  • Travel overseas for BMC Product training and Industry training as required.

Attributes


Mandatory:

Technical Software Consultant is required to have a minimum of 5 years technical background in one or more of the following areas: -


IBM Mainframe Database Administration (IMS or DB2)
IBM Mainframe Systems Programming

  • Confidence to present to customer groups.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills
  • Ability to think on your feet to answer customer questions.
  • Highly Customer focused
  • Display a positive attitude
  • Work with only reasonable supervision

Optional

  • Experience working at other IT Vendors
  • Project Management Skills
