The Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting will be primarily responsible for performing activities around external financial reporting and assisting with researching technical accounting issues for BMC Software. This position will be integrally involved in the following areas (not all-inclusive):
- Preparation of quarterly and annual investor/lender financial reporting packages and presentations (currently complying substantially with SEC rules and regulations due to significant investor and lender requirements and in anticipation of future IPO considerations), interacting closely with a number of other finance functions; includes preparation and analysis of financial statements (including the cash flow statement), footnotes and MD&A, EBITDA reporting, coordination and review of disclosure information sourced from various parts of the Company, and assisting external auditors;
- Assessment of new accounting literature, proposed and final, and assistance with implementation of new pronouncements;
- Assistance with technical research, evaluation and documentation of significant transactions (i.e., equity and debt offerings, M&A, new ventures, share-based awards, complex lease contracts, non-standard purchase contracts, etc.) and ad hoc questions;
- Assistance with evaluation and formulation of conclusions/documentation on other critical technical accounting topics including annual goodwill and other intangible asset impairment testing, complex lease transactions and other areas commensurate with a complex global organization;
- Assistance with M&A accounting initiatives including purchase accounting (including opening balance sheet allocation and intangible asset valuation efforts) and integration from an accounting standpoint; and
- Ensuring complete compliance with internal control requirements, improving controls where necessary, evaluating processes for continuous improvements and influencing change where needed.
This position will report to the Manager of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting.
Job requirements:
- Experience in SEC financial reporting, accounting and financial controls in a publicly-traded corporate financial environment or Big 4 public accounting firm.
- Strong GAAP and technical research skills, commensurate with a complex global environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, as the position requires: i) regular partnering with management personnel across multiple corporate functions and ii) the ability to concisely document technical positions in the form of critical policy and other memoranda.
- Strong analytical and organization skills.
- Ability to work flexibly within a fast-paced environment, under pressure and within strict deadlines.
Education/Training Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- CPA
- 2+ years of work experience with demonstrated progression including proficiency in technical accounting areas
- Current or prior public accounting experience, with a strong preference for Big 4 public accounting firm experience
